The last of the scheduled passenger trains were withdrawn from the route (Manchester to Sheffield) in 1970 with the closure of the line between Hadfield & Penistone on 17 July 1981. The Class 76s locos were subsequently withdrawn. Reddish depot closed early 1983 and the 8 Class 506 units were dragged to Longsight depot for maintenance.
